Retirement and succession planning for farmers
The Rural Financial Counselling Service Victoria – Gippsland in partnership with Centrelink are presenting a series of presentations throughout Gippsland from 14 February and 10 March to encourage farmers to 'get started'.
The presentations will be practical yet thought provoking in demonstrating various ways that retiring or passing on the farm can be achieved to meet individual circumstances.
Rural Financial Counsellors are often asked to assist farmers to come up with a plan and the earlier they start the better chance they have to get the outcome they want. Our job is to find out what the farmer actually wants to do. This may sound straight forward but often it takes some time to weigh up all the options and then get the appropriate professional advice to see if it can be achieved.
There is no one plan that fits all but there are often far more options available than many farmers realise and whilst we don’t give advice we do assist in referring onto the professional services that do provide advice and the answers.
At these presentations, Centrelink and the Rural Financial Counselling Service Vic – Gippsland will demonstrate some of the more common solutions but also some of the lesser understood options that are available to primary producers.
