Poultry - Entry Requirements for Victoria
Health requirements
All poultry must be free of Notifiable diseases. Poultry includes chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, ducks, geese, quails, pigeons, pheasants, partridges, emus or ostriches, reared or kept in captivity. Diseased poultry may only enter Victoria under licence, usually only direct for slaughter at an abattoir. In some limited circumstances a licence to introduce the animals to another Victorian property may be granted. Licences are issued by the Animal Biosecurity and Welfare, DPI Bendigo.

There are specific requirements relating to Newcastle Disease for commercial chickens outlined below, but there are no other specific entry requirements for ‘back-yard’ domestic chickens or other poultry species.
Newcastle disease (relating to commercial chickens)
Victoria is a Control Area for Newcastle Disease.
A commercial poultry flock is one that has more then 1,000 chickens.
No entry of chickens for inclusion in a commercial poultry flock is permitted, unless:
Option 1
- The chickens are vaccinated as per Schedules 1 & 3 of the Order Declaring a Control Area For Newcastle Disease and Prohibitions on the Entry of Domestic Chickens into Victoria; and
- The consignment is accompanied by a vendor declaration (see note below).
Option 2
- under written authority of Manager Animal Standards, DPI.

Note: in lieu of the official vendor declaration, any documentation that states the age and number of chickens and the date(s) and type(s) of NDV vaccination will suffice (e.g. hatchery invoice).
