Services to other libraries from DPI/DSE collections

Our library holds a broad range of information resources relating to agriculture, conservation, land management, energy and resources. Library resources include:

  • A comprehensive collection of publications produced by  the Department of Primary Industries, the Department of Sustainability and Environment and their former agencies
  • Extensive scientific journal and book collections
  • Collections of maps, photographs, videos and CD-ROMs
  • Unpublished reports.

The library collection is mainly housed at the Knowledge Resource Centre, a state-of-the-art facility designed for the long-term preservation of library materials, located at Werribee.
You can arrange an inter-library-loan of material from the KRC via your institutional or public Library.

The following policies apply for inter-library loans:

  • Email requests are preferred but fax and mail requests are also accepted. 
  • All email requests should be sent to krc.docdel@dpi.vic.gov.au 
  • Rush services can be provided for some items. 
  • Standard ILRS charges apply. 
  • Consolidated monthly invoices are issued. 
  • Payment of inter-library loans by cheque or credit card only (ALIA vouchers are not accepted).

Some material has restricted access.

Charging for lost items

If an item is lost or damaged while on loan, the borrowing library will be sent an invoice three months after the first recall notice for an inter-library loan. The invoice will be based on:

  • For items that can be replaced: cost of replacing the item. 
  • For items that cannot be replaced (i.e. out-of-print): current value of item (if this can be established) or original price of item.

You can access a selection of digitised images from photographs, from the 1800's and early 1900's, held by the Department of Primary Industries and the Department of Sustainability and Environment.

Photographs from the Gold Mines or Gold Diggers categories can be viewed at our Information Centre.
