Recruitment Process

Stage 1 - The Application

Applications are only accepted electronically.

The application is the first stage of the process and our assessment is based on the applicant's responses to the key capability criteria, degree fit, academic results and communication skills. We also look at information in the attached resume. Applicants should take the time to carefully complete their application, and attach their resume.

Tips:

  • plan your answers to the key capability criteria
  • provide examples of how and where you have demonstrated specific skills
  • the electronic application can be saved and edited - ensure you are satisfied with your responses before submitting
  • don't leave the application until the last minute - the system will not be accessible after the closing date and we do not accept late or incomplete applications.

Stage 2 - Psychometric Testing & Occupation Personality Questionnaires

When an applicant is short listed based on the application, the applicant will be asked to complete and submit online psychometric testing. These online tests include a numeric reasoning test, a verbal reasoning test and an abstract reasoning test. These test are used to identify your ability in certain areas (see above), and are matched against a comparison group of graduates who have completed the test. These tests are unsupervised, however you may be required to sit a verify test at the assessment centre (if you are successful) to confirm your results.

Tips:

  • allow time to complete the online tests
  • ensure there are no distractions while you undertake the test
  • make sure you have a good internet connection
  • complete the practice tests

Applicants successful after the psychometric testing will be required to complete an Occupational Personality Questionnaire (OPQ). The OPQ is a self select test and provides us with information about your preferable work styles and behaviours.

Tips:

  • be yourself and answer truthfully
  • ensure there are no distractions while you undertake the test

Stage 3 - Assessment Centre

Applicants successful after the psychometric testing are required to attend an assessment centre. The assessment centre is held in Melbourne CBD and takes place over 3 to 4 hours.

The assessment centre involves approximately 10 applicants, and consists of an individual oral presentation, group problem solving exercise and an individual written assessment. The assessment centre is conducted in an environment that is friendly and comfortable.

The assessment centre is assessed and facilitated by four assessors, who will collate and obtain information about the applicant throughout each of the tasks. These will be mapped to the competencies in the position description and the on line application. There is a rating scale for each task and scores collated at the end of the assessment centre.

Attendance at the assessment centre is at applicants own cost.

If the applicant is successful at the assessment centre - they will proceed through to an interview.

Tips:

  • be honest and confident
  • listen to and be respectful of others and others opinions
  • provide your own opinions
  • ask other who have completed an assessment centre for their thoughts and idea
  • dress appropriately

Stage 4 - Interview / Reference Checks

At this stage there will be four applicants for each graduate position. The interviews will be held in Melbourne CBD (interstate or overseas applicants can be interviewed by phone). The panel will consist of three members.

At the interview there will be set questions based on capabilities identified throughout the application process. There will also be specific technical questions related to the role. The applicant will also have the opportunity to elaborate on their skills and achievements, and explain any challenges and problems they've solved. It is also a chance to ask questions about the role and find out specific details that may not already be known. The interview usually takes around 45 minutes.

Naturally, the candidate who is considered the best fit for each position will be offered a position (after reference checks are conducted and satisfactory), upon acceptance a Letter of Offer will be issued.

Tips:

  • contact the coordinating manager and ask about specifics of the role and what technical questions that they may ask (contact details are on the Graduate Positions page)
  • take the opportunity to find out who is on the interview panel and what their roles are in the organisation
  • prepare questions to clarify what you want to know about the job
  • refresh yourself on what knowledge and experience you have regarding the role
  • ensure referees are up to date and informed about the position
  • dress appropriately
