Policy development

We contribute to improved wealth and wellbeing in the energy and primary industry sectors, and the community, by providing informed and robust advice and solutions. Our work includes forward scanning and insight about emerging issues, engaging actively with stakeholders, and implementing legislative change and cabinet processes.

Regulation and compliance

We protect the sustainability of Victoria's primary and energy industries by regulating natural resource use in the public interest. We also encourage best practice behaviours through a proactive approach to self-regulation. We do this while educating, inspecting and enforcing industry and community compliance with legislation and regulations.

We also protect the quality and safety of primary products by building and maintaining Victoria's capability to monitor, detect and respond to disease, pest and residue incidents, outbreaks and other biosecurity threats.

Science, research and development

Our use of science and innovation increases the productivity, profitability, sustainability, international competitiveness and export value of Victoria's primary and energy industries. We invest in research and development, new technologies and practices, knowledge and science based tools, and resource information.
