Welcome to the Native Plants and Animals pages of the Department of Sustainability and Environment website.
The department is responsible for policies and programs to manage native flora and fauna on public and private land and in terrestrial, marine, estuarine and freshwater environments. Our key focus is to ensure that flora and fauna can survive, flourish and maintain their potential for evolutionary development in the wild. We also provide expert advice on conserving and managing species and regulate wildlife possession and trade and the taking of native plants and animals.
