Land for Wildlife Open Property Scheme
| Have you ever wondered what is behind that green diamond-shaped sign you sometimes see on a property gate or boundary? Would you like to bushwalk with experts, see spring wildflowers, picnic in some beautiful natural places on private land, hear more about the Land For Wildlife Scheme and meet some of the members in Victoria? The Open Property Scheme began in 2001 when 200 people visited the ten open properties across the State. By September 2002, there were more than 600 visitors to eighteen properties. Visitor surveys indicated that people enjoyed hearing about the experiences of land owners, meeting like-minded people and being part of a relaxing informative day. Some of the activities included guest speakers on woodland birds, Koori history and revegetation techniques, raptor demontrations, spotlight walks, aquatic surveys and planting of Bulokes and native pines. 2002 also coincided with Land for Wildlife's 21st birthday. So there were many cakes to cut and picnics and BBQs to enjoy. | ![]() |
