Living with Fire – A Community Engagement Framework 2008 – 2012
| In 2008 the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE), Country Fire Authority (CFA), Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) and Department of Human Services (DHS) jointly developed the new Living with Fire – A Community Engagement Framework 2008 – 2012, a coordinated approach to delivering bushfire education and engagement across Victoria. The Living with Fire framework replaces the previous Fire Ready Victoria strategy 2004-2007. The new framework coordinates all agencies’ bushfire awareness, education, engagement programs and information across Prevention, Preparedness, Response, Recovery and the use of fire for managing ecosystems. The framework also includes health and well being through DHS. Programs about bushfires, bushfire safety, personal preparedness and planned burns will be delivered to people in Victoria, including those living in, working in, travelling through or visiting high bushfire risk areas. A key focus of the Living with Fire – A Community Engagement Framework 2008 – 2012 is educating about fire’s role in the environment and the complex nature of fire management, including an awareness of the benefits and challenges of planned burning.
