- choose to negotiate directly with the permit holder or the permit holder’s agent
- nominate an agent to negotiate on their behalf
- nominate a set price to be posted for a fixed period of time
(NOTE: Landowners should contact BushBroker if they wish to nominate an agent or establish a set price)
Average BushBroker Credit Agreement prices
Prices for Native Vegetation Credits are set through the market. Because of the ‘like-for-like’ requirements for offsets, the market is segmented in terms of vegetation types, habitat types, conservation significance and bioregions. The demand for particular credit types will depend mainly upon the amount and location of approved clearing that requires offsetting.
Over 100 BushBroker Credit Agreements (Agreements) have been completed to date, and while these are across five Victorian bioregions, the majority of Agreements have been in the Victorian Volcanic Plains and Goldfields bioregions.
Table 1 provides a summary of the Agreements in these bioregions. This includes the approximate average price per Habitat Hectare and the range of prices per Habitat Hectare for 80% of the agreements in that bioregion. This information should be used with caution.
Table 1. Price history from Victorian bioregions between May 2006 and November 2009 (Agreements including Habitat Hectares only or Habitat Hectares plus Large Old Trees (80% of agreements).
Bioregion | Number of Agreements | Total number of Habitat Hectares | Average price per Habitat Hectare * (of total Agreements) | Habitat Hectare price range * (more than 80% of Agreements) |
Goldfields | 27 | 35.38 | $39,000 | $17,000 → $86,000 |
Victorian Volcanic Plain | 19 | 49.28 | $167,000 | $36,000 → $293,000 |
Gippsland Plain | 8 | 4.91 | $156,000 | $85,000 → $250,000 |
Other bioregions | 10 | 6.76 | $80,000 | $16,000 → $157,000 |
| CAUTION: BushBroker prices are based on one-on-one negotiation between landowners and permit holders. They are all based on agreements requiring 10 years of active management with permanent protection, and they also may reflect the urgency for the permit holder of sourcing an offset and the level of competition in the market. | ||||
