About Us - Science
Innovation in science and practice is a major focus of our work. Most of this work is done by areas of the department's Agriculture and Fisheries Group, primarily through our:
Biosciences Research Division | | |
The vision for BRD is to underpin – through leading science and strong science capacity – innovation in biosciences and bioprotection essential to the prosperity and well-being of Victoria's primary industries, ensuring high impact and relevance, and leading to significant industry and societal benefits. Our work improves the performance of primary industries through the development and application of new technologies and practices.
BRD is comprised of two science platforms - Biosciences and Bioprotection. Our staff are located at 11 DPI sites in regional Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne, including Attwood, Bendigo, Bundoora, Frankston, Hamilton, Horsham, Irymple, Knoxfield, Rutherglen, Tatura, and Werribee.
DPI takes a pro-active approach to the maintenance and building of Victoria's scientific capability and is committed to the provision of high quality, innovative science and technology to create robust primary industries that generate strong economic activity throughout the State.
Biosciences Research Centre
We are also establishing a new Biosciences Research Centre - a joint initiative of the Government of Victoria, through DPI, and La Trobe University - that will be a world-class centre for agricultural biosciences research. The centre will accommodate up to 400 staff, including scientists and support staff.
