Facilitation
Minerals & Petroleum's Business Development and Technology branch promotes and facilitates development of Victoria's minerals sector. Staff are located in Melbourne, and have expertise in mining, planning and environmental approvals. Activities as part of this function include:
- mining project facilitation - including advice to project proponents on Victoria's planning, environmental and mining policy and legislation
- leadership in coordinating DPI's involvement in Environmental Effect Statement processes
- local community relations and education
- minerals policy development and advice - including native title, land access, Commonwealth issues and working arrangements with other agencies
- mineral resources and extractive industry legislation reform projects
- brown coal policy and strategic planning
The role is an important element of the Government's plans for the mining industry in Victoria to once again be a major contributor to the State's economic and social well-being. Strong emphasis is placed on meeting Government objectives relating to improving customer services. (particularly in regional Victoria), facilitating mining project approvals and improving the regulatory regime for doing minerals business in Victoria.
