The discovery of gold in 1851 and the subsequent gold rushes transformed the quiet colony of Victoria into the financial centre of the country. Today, the emerging world class heavy mineral sands province in northwest Victoria has the potential to continue the pivotal role the minerals industry has played in the economic development of Victoria.
