The awards were announced by Energy and Resources Minister Peter Batchelor on 17 August at the 2009 Resources Victoria Conference
Winner of the Large Earth Resource Operation Category
- Austral Bricks/Golder Associates for its Scoresby Quarry rehabilitation project
Commendation in the Large Earth Resource Operation Category
- Iluka Resources for the sustainable operation of its Douglas Mine
Winner of the Medium Sized Earth Resource Operation Category
- Imerys Minerals Australia for its water recycling scheme at its Pittong Mine, and its provision of accommodation to users of the Ballarat to Skipton rail trail
Winner of the Exploration Projects Category
- Iluka Resources for its environmentally-sustainable exploration works in Little Youngs Timber Reserve
No award was made in the Small Earth Resource Category.
The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and Banksia Environmental Foundation jointly administer the Strzelecki Awards. Banksia conducted the entry process and preliminary independent judging sessions. An Audit panel made up of key DPI staff examined the recommendations from Banksia judges and made final decisions.
