The National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) database is operated by Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) and holds the register of NLIS devices, including microchip and associated NLIS numbers, transaction records, and residue, disease and market access status information for NLIS identified cattle.
'Lifetime Traceable' is a status assigned to NLIS identified cattle where every PIC of residence in an animal's life has been registered on the NLIS database.
The following outlines the process for determining the lifetime traceable status of your cattle:
Step 1
Access the NLIS web page at www.nlis.mla.com.au
Step 2
Log onto the database by entering your UserID and password. If you are a new user, please refer to the Agnote - "Registering on the NLIS Database to allow access - A Step by Step Guide", which explains how to create a new account.
Step 3
Select 'view devices on my property' from the drop down list in the light blue section asking 'what do you want to do today?', then click 'Go'.
Step 4
In the first blue box, you have the option of ‘paging’. If paging is enabled, results will be reported, 20 results to a page. If paging is disabled, all results will appear on the one screen
In the second blue box, select the PIC (Property Identification Code) you wish to look at, and then select the report type. To view all the cattle on your property, select ‘All devices currently on my PIC’.
If selecting a different type of report, ie ‘Cattle that have moved onto my property’, you may select a date range to narrow the results. This option is particularly good if you only wish to check the status of stock you recently bought.
Once selections have been made, press ‘Go’ to view the report.
Step 5
After pressing ‘Go’, wait a moment for the screen to refresh, then scroll down the page to see your listed animals.
Step 6
To check the lifetime traceable status of your cattle, look in the column headed "LT" to see if there is a Y or N.
- If a Y is present, the animal is Lifetime Traceable
- If a N is reported it means the animal has lost its lifetime traceable status.
To find out the reason why they have lost their status, look in the next column headed "LT Reason for Loss". A number in the Reason for Loss column tells you why the cattle have lost their lifetime traceable status
What is the reason my cattle have lost their lifetime traceable status?
In the "Reason for Loss" column a number:
1
| Means Lifetime traceability has been lost due to the device being a Post Breeder (orange tag) AND is NOT registered as replacing a device with lifetime traceability
|
2
| Lifetime traceability has been lost due to the device being transferred from an incorrect PIC
|
5
| Lifetime traceability has been lost due to the device being transferred to the default PIC. The default PIC is used to register cattle movements on the NLIS Database when the PIC of the property on which cattle are to be kept is not known and a stock agent PIC is not available.
|
7
| Lifetime traceability has been lost due to the device being set as a damaged device
|
8
| Lifetime traceability has been lost due to the device being set as a lost device
|
9
| Lifetime traceability has been lost due to the device being a stolen device
|
10
| Lifetime traceability has been lost due to the device being set as a replaced device
|
11
| Lifetime traceability has been lost due to a manual override by the administrator |
