Emergency response to plant pests and diseases

Recent detections and outbreaks I Related sites I Reporting plant pests and diseases

In response to a report of an unusual plant pest or disease, DPI's Plant Standards Branch will collect a sample of the organism and have it formally identified.

If the pest or disease is of biosecurity concern, DPI will execute an emergency response based on the national Plant Health Australia PLANTPLAN system, to limit its spread and eradicate if feasible.

However, responses to Queensland fruit fly detections are generally managed according to procedures established under the national Code of Practice for Management of Queensland Fruit Fly.

Wherever possible, landholders and residents will be notified with details of any emergency response programs occurring in their area. In some emergency response situations, DPI officers have the right of access to properties to put eradication or control measures in place.

Please note that DPI does not currently conduct Queensland fruit fly responses in the Permanent Fruit Fly Zone of Victoria .
