Tackling Weeds on Private Land (TWoPL)
Tackling Weeds on Private Land is a $9 million, three-year initiative by the State Government to tackle Victoria's weed problem. The initiative is assisting in the implementation of the Government's Victorian Pest Management – A Framework for Action (VPMF) which sets the direction for pest management within Victoria.
Tackling weeds requires a co-ordinated approach to engage the many land custodians, including State Government, local government, private land managers and industry. Using the slogan 'Weeds are everyone's property', the initiative is informing the community of their responsibility to manage weeds and encouraging them to do so in partnership with other land custodians. | |
Around 60 per cent of Victoria's land is privately owned and requires coordinated weed management. The Government acknowledges that more can be done to coordinate the various groups of land managers to ensure the impact of weeds on private land assets is minimised. It is important that all land managers understand their weed management responsibilities and start acting on them now.
