How do I report a State prohibited weed or Victorian alert weed?
Weed Spotter training
Step 1. Record the location
Record the location very clearly so the exact spot can be found again. Refer to page 11 of Weed Spotter Handbook (PDF 645KB) for details of how to record the location of a weed infestation.
Step 2. Take photographs
If you have a camera with you, take some photographs of the flower, fruit, leaves and some pictures of the whole plant and where it is growing. Photographs are the preferred method of recording what a plant looks like as this avoids:
the potential to spread a new weed further when the sample is taken
the potential for removing a sample of a plant that may be a rare or endangered Australian indigenous plant
If you don't have a camera, make notes of the characteristics of the plant to help identify which plant you have seen.
Step 3. Submit your report
Before you make your report, please make sure the weed is not already a common weed or local indigenous plant. More information on Weed Alert species can be found on the Weed Alert species list page.
If you think the plant is a State prohibited weed, Victorian alert weed or a new, unknown species, please complete the online reportbelow.
The report will be forwarded to a Weed Alert Contact Officer who will assess the report. You may be contacted to provide further information on the sighting.
