Research Funded by the Bureau of Animal Welfare

Under the Domestic (Feral and Nuisance) Animals Act 1994, local councils are required to pay the Treasurer $1 for every cat registration fee, $2.50 for every dog registration fee and $10
or every domestic animal business registration fee that they collect. The money is put into a “Domestic Animal Welfare Fund” the fund helps the bureau play a key role in conducting research into animal welfare and management issues in Victoria to assist in the formulation of Government policy and legislation.
