The AEC Advisory Committee - an industry forum
The AEC Advisory Committee (AECAC) was established at the end of 2004 to provide:
- a forum for discussion and an advisory role to the Bureau of Animal Welfare on existing and emerging issues relating to AECs and the use of animals in research and teaching
- to generate greater consistency amongst AECs and
- to obtain feedback from AECs.
The committee composition is intended to provide a diverse range of viewpoints, with representatives from major universities, smaller universities, the Department of Primary Industries, private institutions, hospitals, and the school system. The membership is also designed to include each of the AEC categories of membership, and in addition a representative who is responsible for the routine care of animals within an institution.
The AECAC meets 3 times a year.
Any issues relevant to AECs in Victoria can be presented to this committee for consideration by contacting the executive officer of the committee at animal.welfare@dpi.vic.gov.au.
