Vegetable Matter-of-Facts is an A4 sized fact sheet produced by the DPI VegCheque extension team. The main aim of the fact sheets are to present practical information which can be used by members of the Victorian vegetable industry. They include lots of pictures and dot points of the essential information so it is easy to find. There are also references to where to obtain more information on the topic. Vegetable Matter-of-Facts presents information on general farm management issues as well as the results of research and development undertaken by the Victorian DPI and others.

Practical Information Delivery
The Department of Primary Industries is committed to developing sustainable farming systems which ensure environmental, social and economic benefits to the Victorian community.
In working towards this goal, DPI has introduced government-funded extension services to work with all horticultural industries.
VegCheque is the DPI extension project which is working with the vegetable industries (including potatoes). The project is able to service each of the Victorian regions which support vegetable-growing industries.
The aim of VegCheque is to deliver information in a flexible way to enable its best use on the farm and throughout the vegetable supply chain.

How it Works
The project uses experienced people to facilitate the delivery of information. |
|
| 1. | A VegCheque facilitator meets with an industry group to find out what activities or information are of particular importance. These could include technical, business, environmental or lifestyle issues. | |
| 2. | The facilitator arranges for the most appropriate people and methods to deliver the information at the most appropriate time and place eg. farm walks, posters, demonstrations, newsletters. |
| 3. | The facilitator provides follow-up assistance for the group or individuals to effectively apply the information presented. |
VegCheque activities are likely to vary between industry groups; however, it is important that group members make a commitment to participate in as many activities as possible.
VegCheque enables research outcomes to be put to their best use by industry. It also allows the industry to express their research and development priorities and highlight other issues of importance.
