Economic Analysis
Impact of BCA and Plumbing Regulations on Gas Supply to New Estates
Changes to the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and Plumbing regulations require all new homes built in Victoria from 1 July 2005 to achieve a minimum five star energy rating and install either a water tank or a solar-gas hot water system in areas with gas reticulations.
While these regulations will have a beneficial environmental impact overall, they also have the potential to significantly reduce average gas consumption for new houses. McLennan Magasanik Associates prepared an Economic analysis of impact of BCA and Plumbing regulations on gas supply to new estates for the Victorian Government.
