Future Energy

The Victorian Government is developing a plan for a sustainable energy future, which balances current energy needs with the needs of tomorrow.

It’s a plan for a transition to a low carbon energy future that will require many different solutions. Whether it’s cleaner coal, carbon capture and storage, more renewables, or improved energy efficiency, these responses are all part of the answer – none of these is the answer on its own.

This transition will see great changes that will impact on everyone – changes of such a scale and cost that they may take decades to complete. Energy prices will increase as more investment in renewable energy and clean coal is required and new energy infrastructure is spread across more parts of the state. It will also involve us all playing a part in using energy more wisely, and accepting the changes that will come with new, cleaner forms of energy.

But with the challenges also come opportunities for Victoria. The growth of clean energy industries will create thousands of new jobs and drive demand for new skills, leading to a more diverse and sustainable economy.

Our energy has always been cheap, reliable and secure. Our challenge now will be to make it clean.
