The new premium feed-in tariff for solar enables Victorians to install roof top solar panels and receive a premium rate for unused electricity they feed back into the state electricity grid.
Households, as well as community organisations and small businesses that consume less than 100 megawatt hours a year, can be rewarded with a credit of 60 cents per kilowatt hour for excess electricity they feed back into the state electricity grid. This premium rate is more than three times higher than the standard retail rate customers pay for electricity.
The standard feed-in tariff applies to larger renewable power systems for homes and businesses (up to 100 kilowatts in size) including solar, wind, hydro and biomass. It complements the premium feed-in tariff. Under the standard feed-in tariff, customers are paid the regular retail rate for excess power they do not use and feed back into the electricity grid.
